My major concentration this summer has been in watercolor, however, I also did some drawing. One evening in June I met with musician Philip Peters at True Artist Management in Franklin, Tennessee, for a portrait drawing session. Philip works for recording artist TobyMac. Knowing that I was working on a series of musician portraits, Philip graciously agreed to pose - which is actually hard work. He played the grand piano the entire time that I drew, which was wonderful for me, as I attempted to capture his likeness and make an interesting composition.
The other drawings involve the still life theme that I've been engaged in for the past two years. Drawing and painting from life remains a major interest to me. Giorgio Morandi demonstrated that there are an infinite number of spatial variations to be discovered, even within the limitations of a simple still life. Of course, it is always a challenge and a delight to bring life to any drawing or painting, regardless of its theme. Morandi was able to do this again and again, over a lifetime in his still life and landscape works.
